Jarrod Emick (Brad Majors, Broadway's revival The Rocky Horror Show) will be co-starring against Hugh Jackman and Isabel Keating in The Boy from Oz when it opens for previews on September 16 and officially on October 16.

The subject matter is described as: "...Peter Allen [as played by Jackman], the all-but-openly gay hit songwriter and master performer who was born in Australia and discovered by Judy Garland and who married Liza Minnelli, packed Radio City Music Hall, and wrote or cowrote some dozen massive hit songs before his death from AIDS complications in 1992." - The Advocate, 01.16.03

Emick will be playing the role of Greg, a lighting designer and Allen's "longtime love."

Emick was last seen in The Full Monty, which he starred in after his run in Rocky Horror.

Links: http://www.broadway.com/show_info.asp?CI=30039&CT=24; http://www.broadway.com/template_1.asp?CI=20836&CT=38

Alice Ripley: Little Shop of Horrors Opens Tomorrow - Without Ripley.

Little Shop of Horrors will opening on August 28, despite several complications. The Rocky Horror Show's Alice Ripley performed in Horrors in Washington, D.C., but for reasons kept private, will not be performing as Audrey for the Broadway revival.

Alice wrote on the issue briefly at her messageboard in June:
Dear Pals,
After the EXCRUCIATING experience of being severed from Little Shop of Humiliations (which I prefer not to talk about except to say that the cast was amazing), I am ecstatic to deliver the good news that I have been cast in a new play by Ken Ludwig called "Shakespeare in Hollywood", which will play at the Arena Stage in D.C. this fall. When I got the news, I put my face in my hands and cried with happiness. The plays is hilarious. Please come.

love

Al

Kerry Butler will be taking on the role of Audrey, next to Hunter Foster's Seymour.

Sources: http://members3.boardhost.com/officialalice/msg/1841.html; http://www.broadway.com/show_info.asp?SI=29726

On November 2nd, 2003, the Broadway revival of Cabaret will be closing.

While notable for launching the career of Alan Cumming, The Rocky Horror Show's Raul Esparza also performed the same role: the Emcee, immediately following his run in R.H.S.

Esparza was allegedly in talks to return.

Currently, the show features Jon Secada and Melina Kanekaredes.

Source: http://www.playbill.com/news/article/81352.html

Susan Sarandon: Anti-American.

According to the Patriotic American Boycotting Anti-American Hollywood, Susan Sarandon is un-American. On their list of the 108 (and counting), Sarandon joins the ranks of Martin Sheen, Madonna, Jennifer Aniston, Oliver Stone, Janeane Garofalo, and Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream. Their reason? This quote:

"We stand a chance of getting a president who has probably killed more people before he gets into office than any president in the history of the United States."

Source: http://www.pabaah.com/pabaah.htm

Matthew Morrison: Article in Newsday

The Rocky Horror Show's Matthew Morrison appeared in an article in Newsday regarding his current and future projects.

Excerpt:
Hairspray hottie Matthew Morrison, who stars as Link Larkin over at the Neil Simon, may be trading in his dancing shoes for a loincloth. The one-time boy-band singer, whose contract expires in July, will read later this month for the lead role in an upcoming Disney-bankrolled production of Tarzan.

"I'll end up spending all my days at the gym," Morrison sighed, adding that despite the good fortune of landing in a Broadway hit, he's scoping out his next creative challenge.

"Coming to New York, my goal was to be one of those guys who people would call and say 'We want you for this part,' and now that's coming to life," he said. "I don't even have to audition."

His dream role? "I'd really like to play a villain."

Source: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/matthewmorrison
